About MATAM IN ISLAM RIGHT OR WRONG
Matm is a ritual done by Shia Muslims on
10th of Ashoora, in the grief of the Martyr
Hussain رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ
To show their grief they mourn and harm
themselves by striking sword on their body
or slapping their face and beating their
chest.
This action of their is unapproved from
the Islamic Sources (The Quran & Sunnah)
and it is considered as Haram and Bidah
(Innovation).
The Prophet did not do them, nor did any of his
companions. None of his companions did them
when he or anyone else died, although the loss
of prophet Muhammad was greater than the
death of Hussain رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ.
Prophet ﷺ, strictly forbade harming oneself
over the loss of someone dear to us and said:
"He is not one of us who strikes his cheeks,
rends his garment, or cries with the cry of the
Jaahiliyyah."
(Sahih Bukhari : 1294)
Infact these Shia do matm just as a showoff,
because the loss of
Hussain (رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ) is a lesser
loss than the loss of their greatest Imam his father
and our beloved Khalifah
Ali رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ, so why
don't these Shia show grief on the death of Ali just
like they show for Hussain (May Allah be pleased
with them both).
We should learn from our righteous salaf (people
of past), the prophet Yaqub, when he heard the
loss of Yusuf, he was saddened and felt the loss so
much so that he lost his eyesight because of crying
but never be beat himself nor strike his chest and
back with any knife.
We see the loss of prophet Muhammadﷺ, all
of the Sahabah were in deepest level of grief,
Uthaman fell unconscious and other Sahabah
couldn't believe, her daughter Fatimah bursted
into tears for days and cried but nobody of
them mourned over the loss of greatest all
Imam, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , the way the
Shia's do.
Thus we should learn the from the
authentic source of Islam and the practices
of our righteous people of past. And
not to practice such evil deeds which is
bidah. And al ways know that all Bidah is
transgression and all the transgressions
leads to hellfire.
So my humble to my dear Shia people,
please don't follow nor support such
rituals. Change yourself and your thinking.
You are harming yourself in a way which
won't benefit in this world nor in Akhirah.
May Allah guide us all
